10 years have passed since the burst of the economic bubble, continued deflation has greatly impacted Japanese corporations, especially, the manufacturing companies.  The ‘Total Value Chain’ including corporate group enterprises, and ‘Keiretsu’ are being re-evaluated, and focus on a company’s ‘Core Competence’ is required more than ever.  In addition, as the pressure to maximize ‘Share Holder Value’ surmounts, companies are forced to re-evaluate their total capital strategy.   As a way to decrease fixed and current assets, buyouts and spin-offs of manufacturing arms and departments have increased, and business models such as EMS have gained greater attention.

It is said that EMS has long existed in Japan in its own form of ‘Keiretsu’ or group companies.  But with corporate movement towards consolidated management and with such new IT Technology that has enabled E-Collaboration, perhaps it is time now to redefine and reshape the form of EMS in Japan.

What kind of impact does innovative technology such as CPC (Collaborative Product Commerce) or PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) have on the whole supply chain in the manufacturing industry? In this day and age when more and more manufacturing operations are moving to China, it may be time now for companies to capitalize on the strategic utilization of such technology in order for Japanese manufacturing companies to survive and move forward.  This conference will bring together leading companies and experts in this area of new business models and technology to help probe for the hint that would help revitalize the Japanese manufacturing industry and its economy.
